To Abby_21. Indeed, I usually use a good ham that I cube piceses of for my navy coffee bean broth. Always prepare the legumes in normal water only, do not add everything else, until finally they are done or as one more critic mentioned they may not soften. I only add celery, green beans and onion along with sodium and pepper. I keep the greens in big parts to enable them to be eliminated - specifically celery which gets to be slimy if you ask me but provides excellent flavor. Offer with cornbread for a frosty winter season night dinner!
